One of the worst disasters in America was the 9/11 terrorist attack. 9/11 happened on September 11, 2001, when planes were hijacked and flew into the World Trade Center Towers. With a count of 2,996 deaths and over 6,000 injured. As of now, we still don’t know the true story behind the 9/11 attacks.

Four planes were hijacked, and all them were headed towards California. American Airlines flight 11, United Airlines flight 175, American Airlines flight 77, and United Airlines flight 93, were hijacked. Sadly no survivors from any of the crashes survived.

American Airlines Flight 11 was the first to be hijacked at 8:15 AM. As it headed to Los Angeles, California, it was redirected to New York City, where it crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 AM.

First crash, North Tower

Just after the first crash, news traveled fast, and 17 mins later United Airlines Flight 175 flew into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. This plane left Boston and was headed to LA, but redirected to New York City. It actually missed the tower, and had to turn around and crashed into the Tower at 9:03 AM.

Second crash, South Tower

After this second crash, the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), ordered the landing of all flights and closed all U.S. airspace. This messed up all the flight schedules, so a whole new schedule had to be made because of this. President Bush was put under high protection and moved to a few places to avoid any assassination attempts.

American Airlines Flight 77 was another hijacked plane, but this one headed towards the Pentagon. The headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, located in Virginia. Flight 77 departed from Washington D.C., hijacked and turned around half an hour later, heading towards the Pentagon. And at 9:37 AM it crashed creating a fire and a result of 184 deaths.

Pentagon crash

After this third crash, the U.S. was basically closed down. All schools and government buildings were closed down for the whole day.

9:59 AM, when the South Tower, the second hit, collapsed 56 mins after the crash. Killing anyone inside the building and causing smoke all over New York City.

South Tower Collapsing

At 10:58 AM, the North Tower, the first crash, also collapsed creating another cloud of smoke all over New York City. Other than the North and South Tower, World Trade Center Towers 4, 5, 6, and 7 all caught on fire from the first two crashes. And World Trade Center 7 was only of the four to collapse from the fire.

United Airlines Flight 93, was the last crash that occurred in 9/11. But, when this plane was hijacked, the passengers took control and overthrew the terrorists. But not knowing how to fly a plane, it crashed at 10:03 AM in Pennsylvania, and no survivors survived the crash.

Fires continued to burn in New York and the recovery of any survivors continued to the next few days. The U.S. was surprised and was in mourn for the people who didn’t survive the attack and many people didn’t go to work or school for days.

Osama bin Laden, the founder of the Al-Qaeda group, was accused of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. It wasn’t until three years later, the Al-Qaeda group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

And because of all the evidence the government collected was never shared publicly, people started conspiracies.

After the attacks, President Bush requested that Afghanistan gives up Al-Qaeda who were hiding in Afghanistan. But they refused, and the U.S. declared war on Afghanistan in October 2001, and it is the longest war in American history.
